| Position Description |
|
The Sr. Algorithm Development Developer will work in tandem with a Smiths Detection R&D Center of Excellence to develop software algorithms for detection systems to meet requirements of key customers inside the U.S.
Key duties of this position will include collection of data, coding and adaptation of algorithms, technical interchanges with internal and customer R&D personnel, and understanding and advancing the detection algorithm capabilities of Smiths Detection.
Specific Duties, activities and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
*Manage the development of threat and anomaly detection algorithms for various imaging-based detection systems.
*Collect sample images, library data, and technical information to support algorithm development projects.
*Lead U.S. based testing and development of detection systems including executing test plans and experiments.
*Ensure successful test and development efforts including hands-on installation, diagnosis, and test support of demonstration. Systems in support of lab and field testing activities coordinating with R&D and service personnel
*Create submissions, cost proposals, project plans, and financial tracking for various efforts.
*Contribute to multiple efforts of programs providing leadership of on-site or external colleagues as required
*Comply with US Security Clearance holder requirements and duties including proper handling of sensitive materials and requirements.
*Comply with and ensure department compliance with Company health, safety and environmental policies.

| Requirements |
|
Education/Training:
Advance Degree or Equivalent Experience in an appropriate technical field (Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Medical Imaging or Computer Science)
Experience:
5 of more years experience in developing computer algorithms, mathematics, physics, or related discipline. Experience with security imaging or detection projects desired. Experience in related field (Medical Imaging) will be considered.
Knowledge/Skills:
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Project. Experience with Linux, Unix OS, Matlab, Mathematics, C/C++ or similar programs desired. Project management/leadership experiences a plus.
Security:
Candidate must possess or be able to successfully obtain a US Security Clearance at the SECRET level
Physical/Mental Requirements:
*Ability to solve complex practical problems
*Ability to interpret ad variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
*Ability to work effectively under pressure to meet deadlines
*Ability to represent the company in a range of venues, including technical conferences, national laboratories, and test venues.
*Ability to compose and edit high-quality technical documentation, correspondence, and literature
*Ability to elicit and manager contributions from various technical colleagues at different sites and locations including overseas travel when necessary
*Ability to work independently with minimal amount of supervisor including strategic decision making to ensure success.
Work Environment:
Individual will spend much of their time in the office area, where the noise level is low, however the ability to travel will be necessary, especially in the near term for job training and near-term efforts. The ability to perform light-duty lifting tasked will be necessary as part of some job tasks.
